Dalit beaten to death in Shimla, three youths held
SHIMLA: A Dalit man was beaten to death by three upper caste youths in Nerwa area of Chopal in Shimla district on Friday. Police have arrested all the three accused, including aminor.
Shimla SP, Omapati Jamwal said a case was registered under sections of the IPC and SC/ST Prevention of Atrocities Act, 1989. He said all the three accused — aged 17, 19 and 20 — had been arrested and a probe had beenlaunched.
The 24-year-old victim, Rajat, was driving in the market area when the three accused — who were behind him in another car — began honking to overtake him. Sources said, as the road was congested, Rajat could not give them pass for around 10-15 metres. This agitated them and they thrashed him up after overtaking and stopping him.
However, Rajat left the spot safely after a home guard jawan deployed on traffic duty intervened. The sources said the assailants followed him and attacked him again near the Dundi temple, where his parents found him lying injured. They took Rajat to Nerwa hospital, where he succumbed to his injuries.
