Central scholarship scheme fails to check drop-out rate of transgender students
CHANDIGARH: In a move that was expected to fight social stigma and promote education among transgender students to stop them from dropping out of schools and colleges, the Centre had in 2015 launched a Post-Matric Scholarships Scheme. However, in all these years none of the transgender students have benefited from it for the simple reason — lack of awareness.
Even this year the details about the scholarship have been uploaded on department’s website, but the students are unaware about it. October 10 is the last date to apply for the scholarship this year. Also, Panjab University and its affiliated colleges have started giving scholarship this year, for which four students in the university have applied but are yet to benefit from it.
