Bombay HC stays govt decision on caste certificates
Mumbai: In a setback for the Fadnavis government, the Nagpur bench of Bombay HC has stayed the state government’s notification which enables SC, ST, VJNT and OBC persons to get caste validity by submitting their father’s validity certificate without any fresh documents.
The state social justice department had issued a notification in this regard on November 24, 2017. According to the notification, children and blood relations were required to only submit the caste validity certificate of their father to obtain a caste validity certificate for themselves. The HC bench,
while staying the notification, asked the government to revert to the old process of caste certificate validation. This involves submitting documentary evidences for each individual while applying for a caste
Rajkumar Badole, minister for the social justice said, “It is an interim order. We are now considering forming a committee under the principal secretary which will deal with issues related to caste validity.” An official from the tribal development department said they had not implemented the notification.
