Blaming cops of inaction, rape survivor commits suicide
Bareilly: Blaming police of inaction, a 24-year-old rape survivor, who had been running from pillar to post to get a case registered, allegedly committed suicide in a village under Dataganj police station area of Badaun district on Sunday.
In her suicide note, the woman, who hung herself to death, blamed the police for the extreme step.
The victim stated that she was married two years ago and had been living with her parents since February, after her health deteriorated.
“On May 15, when I was on my way home after visiting a doctor, one of my relatives met me at a bus stand and told me that my husband was not well and I must come with him to see my husband. Two people were already accompanying the relative. Believing them, I sat in his car, but they forcefully took me to Secunderabad in Telangana and confined me to a house,” the woman stated in her suicide note.
“They raped me for a week and snatched all my jewellery and mobile phone, leaving me helpless. I could
not even contact my family. One day, when they were taking me to Delhi in a train, I called my father using the mobile phone of a co-passenger and gave him Delhi’s address where they were taking me,” the suicide note further stated. The victim also stated that it was her father who made her free from the clutches of her tormentors and
took her home in Badaun. The victim had alleged that she had given written complaints to Dataganj police station SHO, Badaun SSP and Bareilly zone ADG, but none of them paid heed to her plight.
“I love my husband a lot. Since I was raped, my husband left me. I am left with no other option, except ending my life,” she concluded in the note. SSP Ashok Kumar Tripathi told TOI, “When she approached Dataganj police, they advised her to lodge an FIR in Secunderabad as the crime was committed there. Then the woman met ADG on June 12, following which we were instructed to lodge an FIR. After probing into the matter, we booked the three accused.”
