Bhopal: Equipped with bail, ex-min Arya surrenders in local court
Lal Singh Arya, the minister in erstwhile BJP government, surrendered here in District and Sessions Court on Friday after the High Court granted him bail in connection with the murder of a Congress MLA. Arrest warrant was issued against the then NVDA minister Arya in 2017.
Advocate Santosh Sharma informed that former minister surrendered in court of ADJ Suresh Singh. “Lal Singh Arya was granted bail by High Court but its execution was to be carried out in local court so Arya surrendered here to furnish bail bond, which is normal judicial process,” said Sharma. After completing all the paper formalities, relieved Arya left for home.
Gohad MLA Makhanlal Jatav was shot dead on April 13, 2009 in Chharate village of Bhind district when he was campaigning for the party Lok Sabha candidate for Bhind seat, Bhagirath Prasad. Terming it a political murder, Congress had blamed it on Arya, who had lost the 2008 Assembly poll to Jatav.
During the trial at the Special Court (SC/ST) in Bhind, Jatav’s son filed an application under Section 319 of the CrPC (power to proceed against other persons appearing to be guilty of offence).Considering this application, Special Judge Yogesh Gupta had ordered that Arya be named as an accused and issued the arrest warrant against him. Three eyewitnesses had also given statements under Section 161 of CrPC.
