8 days after 2 Dalits shot, kin yet to cremate bodies
Eight days after two persons from a Dalit family at Jawahrewala village here were allegedly shot by some Congressmen over political enmity started during the panchayat elections, both are yet to be cremated.
A large number of Dalit rights organisations under the banner of the Joint Action Committee have been staging a protest outside the District Administrative Complex (DAC) here demanding arrest of all accused. Presently, the bodies of the deceased are kept in the mortuary of the local civil hospital as their family has not given assent for the post-mortem yet.
Kirandeep Singh and his sister-in-law Mini Rani were allegedly shot by some Congressmen, including Palwinder Singh ‘Pappa’ and Sukhvinder Singh ‘Duggi’ over dispute of a street construction under the MGNREGA in the village on July 13. Besides, Kirandeep’s brothers Dharminder Singh and Gurjeet Singh too had sustained bullet injuries. The victims too owed allegiance to the Congress. They had opposed sarpanch candidate backed by Pappa and Duggi, who eventually lost the election in December last year. Sandeep Singh of the other faction too was injured.
