3 suffocate to death while cleaning sewer at residential complex in Thane
THANE: Three of the eight workers deployed for cleaning a sewage treatment plant at Pride Presidency Luxuria, a gated complex in Dhokali area of Thane, died due to suffocation in the wee hours of Friday.
The rescue officials from the Thane Municipal Corporation said that the men had reportedly ventured inside the tank without safety gears and inhaled toxic gases leading to death of three workers. While another worker has been shifted to a nearby hospital, four others are reported to be stable.
The workers, hailing from Haryana, were employed by a Thane-based contractor Ajay Bagul for the job of cleaning the tank on Thursday.
An accidental death case has been registered with the Kapurbawdi police. Civic and police officials said they were investigating the case further.
The deceased workers have been identified as- Amit Puhal (20), Aman Badal (21) and Ajay Bumbak (24).
The other five other workers who were hospitalised are Vijendra Hatwal (25), Manjit Vaidya (25), Jasbir Puhal (24), Rummer Puhal (30), Ajay Puhal (21).
