14 transgender achievers honoured
Chennai: ‘Mahatmika’, an event honouring the journey of 14 transwomen, was held in Chennai recently.
Those honoured were detailed in the book, ‘Transgender in India, achievers and survivors’authored by retired IAS officer C K Gariyali and social activist and actress Priyadarshini.
Hosted by Saraswathi Educational Charitable Trust and Inner Wheel Club of Chennai, the program was an ode to the bold and inspiring transwomen who overcame various hurdles to become great achievers in their respective fields.
Sathyasri Sharmila, Noori Amma, Swetha Sudhakar, Olga B Aaron, Jeeva Subramanian, Dr Sudha, Rekha and Dhanalakshmi were among the ones present for the event. Each of these noteworthy personalities are pioneers in their fields as dancers, artists, doctors, inspectors to name a few.
P N Vasudevan, managing director and CEO of Equitas Small Finance Bank, was part of the event.
