QCrime: Dalit Woman Set Ablaze; Suspected Honour Killing in Delhi

1. Delhi: Father Slits Throat of Girl Over ‘Friendship’ With Boy in Suspected Honour Killing

In a suspected case of honour killing, a 40-year-old man allegedly stabbed his 13-year-old daughter to death on Wednesday because he was allegedly enraged over her friendship with a man who runs a mobile shop in their neighbourhood in east Delhi’s Karawal Nagar, police said.

The body of the girl was found dumped near a drain at Tronica City area of Loni in Ghaziabad on Friday, two days after she was reported missing from her Karawal Nagar house.

2. Decomposed Body of Man Found in Bhiwandi

A decomposed body of a man was found in a village in Bhiwandi on Friday, 9 March. Police suspect it to be the remains of a Nallasopara-based businessman who went missing three days earlier. The family of Narendra Mishra (32) registered a police complaint in Nallasopara on 7 March, a day after he went missing. The police said Mishra, who runs a garment business in Nallasopara east, had a long-standing monetary dispute with a few business associates.

The police sent out pictures and a description of the missing man to police forces in the neighbouring districts. On Saturday, the Tulinj police station was contacted by their counterparts in Padgha, Bhiwandi, regarding the body of an unidentified man in Khandwal village.

3. Auto Driver Held for Killing Man, Raping His Lover

A 30-year-old autorickshaw driver was, on Sunday, 11 March, arrested by Thane rural police local crime branch unit for allegedly shooting dead Ganesh Dinkar (26) and raping his girlfriend on the Ambernath-Titwala road on Monday evening. Sanjay Narvade is a resident of Ulhasnagar.

Dinkar and his girlfriend had gone for joyride near Nalindi village when Narvade tried to rob him and demanded his motorcycle key last Monday night. When he refused to hand over the keys, Narvade fired three rounds and raped his girlfriend at gunpoint. He then fled with her mobile phone.

4. Youth Axes Neighbour to Death Over Water Dispute

A youth axed his 30-year-old neighbour to death following an argument over water in Gautampura area on the night of Saturday, 10 March.

The victim, Govardhan, was sitting at the house of one Kamal Dabi when the accused Tejaram came with an axe and attacked him on his neck. He kept attacking Govardhan before he fell unconscious in a pool of blood. The neighbours present at the spot ran in horror and called Gautampura police.

5. 17-Year-Old Alleges Kidnap, Gangrape in Jewar

A 17-year-old girl has alleged she was abducted from her home in Jewar’s Rabupura, and gang-raped by two persons. Police said the incident took place on the intervening night of 8-9 March. An FIR was filed against three people, including a woman, at Rabupura police station on 11 March.

“Prima facie background check had to be done to establish the authenticity of the case. An FIR has been filed, and the medical check-up was done on Sunday. We are awaiting reports,” said Suniti, SP (Rural Area), Gautam Buddh Nagar district. The family, however, said, “We went to the police station with the girl but police said that since she is semi-conscious, we should get her treatment done first, and asked us to leave.”

6. 20-Year-Old in Mumbai Stabbed in Fight Over a Girl, 2 Held

A 20-year-old college student was stabbed in the stomach on Saturday, 10 March, by another youth in Andheri (East) after a fight allegedly over a girl.

The Andheri police said the victim, Deepan Baruah, is out of danger and they have arrested two of the five accused under section 307 of the IPC. They detained the other three till Sunday night.

According to the Andheri police, the incident took place at around 9 am outside a building in JB Nagar, near Jyoti Hotel. Baruah is a resident of Marol in Andheri (East) and studies in a college. “Baruah and one of the five accused were in love with the same girl. They had fought over her in November last year but back then the issue had been settled,” said an officer from the Andheri police station.

7. Youths Rape 40-Year-Old Woman in Baran, Upload Video on Social Media

A 40-year-old woman was allegedly gang-raped by six youths in Baran district of Rajasthan and the crime filmed and uploaded on social media.

The rape was, however, committed a month ago. The survivor lodged a complaint with the Mahila police station in Baran after she came to know that the video has been uploaded on social media. Police have booked six persons under various sections of the IPC and IT Act, but none of the accused has been arrested so far.

8. Two Booked for Raping Nurse in Panchmahal Village

A nurse working in a private company was allegedly raped by two persons on the outskirts of Ambaliyara village of Kalol taluka in Panchmahal on Friday, 9 March. The rape survivor registered complaint against two accused – Alpesh Jadav and Kirit Parmar – on Saturday night.

Police said that the 20-year-old woman was going with Jadav to a Mahadev temple on his bike around 6:30 pm on Friday. Jadav stopped his bike some distance away from the temple and insisted that the woman and he walk till the temple. After walking for a while, the woman told Jadav that the path was not correct, but Jadav ignored and asked her to keep walking.

After few minutes when the woman again told him that the temple was not on that way, Jadav gagged her to a nearby hillock and allegedly raped her. After sometime Parmar too reached there and raped the woman.

9. Dalit Woman Set on Fire by Moneylenders Succumbs in Uttar Pradesh

Four days after a 40-year-old Dalit woman was allegedly set on fire by moneylenders at a village in Uttar Pradesh’s Ballia district, she succumbed to her injuries on Sunday, 11 March.

Reshmi Devi passed away at the BHU trauma centre around 6 am on Sunday. Her body was sent for a post-mortem, after which it was handed over to her relatives, police said. Belonging to a family of poor landless farm labourers, she had borrowed Rs 20,000 from the accused two years ago. Though she had returned the amount with interest, the accused demanded more, her kin told police.

Two moneylenders had allegedly poured kerosene oil over Devi and set her on fire while she was sleeping in her house in Jajauli village on Thursday night.
