The 15-year-old Dalit victim had committed suicide
Investigations into the gang-rape and subsequent suicide by a 15-year-old Dalit girl in Koraput district of Odisha should be handed over to the CBI, a team of the National Commission of Scheduled Caste (NCSC), which made an on-the-spot enquiry on Monday, has said.
The three-member team led by Yogendra Paswan visited the home of the victim to meet the family members. The team also went to her school and interacted with her friends. Their next stop was at Kunduli Community Health Centre and SLNM Medical College and Hospital in Koraput, where the victim had been treated. Koraput Collector and Superintendent of Police accompanied the NCSC team.
‘No arrests yet’
Speaking to reporters, Mr Paswan criticised the fact that till now no one has been arrested in the case. According to him, the probe should be handed over to the CBI as family members of the victim are also demanding it. He felt a CBI probe will be able to bring out the truth.
Acting on a petition filed by Koraput MLA Krushna Chandra Sagaria and a brother of the victim, the NCSC had ordered a probe into the incident.
The brother of the victim has also approached the Supreme Court seeking CBI investigation into the case alleging inaction by the State police.
A five-member National Human Rights Commission team had also visited Koraput on February 5 and conducted an on the spot enquiry into the incident.
