Kanpur: Four senior Professors of Indian Institute of Technology (IIT) Kanpur have been found guilty of harassment of a Dalit Assistant Professor in the institute.
The Assistant Professor Dr Subramanium Sudrela had lodged a complaint with the IIT Board against four senior Professors of passing casteist remarks and mental torture since he belonged to a low caste.
A pass-out of the IIT Kanur, Dr Sudrela had alleged that he was continuously been harassed by the four Professors ever since he joined the Institute on January 1st this year.
Taking serious note of the Dalit Assistant Professor’s complaint, the Institute Director Prof Manindra Agarwal had constituted a three-member committee headed by the Dr APJ Abdul Kalam Technical University (AKTU) Prof Vinay Kumar Pathak.
The three-member committee had probed allegations and recorded statements of the victim, accused Professors and other faculty staff members. In the confidential report submitted by Prof Pathak to the IIT-K Director, the three-member committee found the four accused Professors guilty of harassment of Dalit Assistant Professor.
Reacting to the Dr Pathak’s report, the Institute Director Prof Manindra Agarwal said that they have convened a meeting of the Institute Board on March 19. Prof Agarwal said that the report will be placed before the Board members to decide action and fate of the four Professors found guilty by the committee.
The IIT Kanpur is in news for the past one year for all wrong reasons. In January, a girl student of the Institute was allegedly raped by an IAF employee within the campus on the pretext of marrying her. Last year, about 22 students were rusticated for ragging juniors in October.
