Accused of instigating a mob
The Special Investigation Team (SIT) constituted to probe the caste violence in Saharanpur on Thursday filed the charge sheet against Bhim Army chief Chandrashekhar and 110 others.
Mr. Chandrashekhar has been charged under sections 307 (Attempt to murder), 147 (punishment for rioting), 148 (rioting armed with deadly weapon) of the Indian Penal Code.
SP (City) Prabal Pratap Singh, who heads the SIT, told The Hindu that the investigating team submitted the charge sheet in a local court against 111 accused, including Chandrashekhar, Saharanpur district president of Bhim Army Kamal Valia, and Shiv Kumar, the Dalit village head of Shabbirpur, the epicentre of the caste violence between Thakur and Dalits.
“We filed the charge sheet on Thursday against 111 accused in 30 cases. Chandrashekhar has been charged with sections 307, 147, 148 and 148 of the IPC. He was charged with instigating the mob for violent attacks on the police on May 9,” he said.
The SIT has held Shiv kumar, as one of the main accused in the caste clashes which happened in Shabbirpur.
