Attack on Dalit boy: SI’s explanation sought

The District Police Complaints Authority has sought an explanation from A. Habeebulla, sub-inspector of police attached to the Medical College police station, in a complaint related to the alleged assault on a Dalit boy outside his jurisdiction in October last.

Authority chairman K.V. Gopikkuttan issued a direction to this effect at a sitting of the authority on Monday, based on a complaint filed by K.V. Shaji, RTI activist. Mr. Shaji claimed in the complaint that Mr. Habeebulla had assaulted the boy and his father outside a hostel in Nadakkavu, when he had gone there to meet his fiancée.

After the boy’s relatives and local activists staged a protest against Mr. Habeebulla, a department-level inquiry had been ordered against him. Mr. Shaji, however, claimed that action had not yet been taken against him.
